Buhari To Confer CON Award On APC Chieftain Kyari

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the conferment of the National Honours Award to Senator Abubakar Kyari.

Senator Kyari, Deputy National Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is to be honoured with the rank of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).

According to a letter signed by Senator George Akume, Minster of Special Duties and Inter-government Affairs, dated September 19, 2022, the investiture ceremony is scheduled to take place at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja, on Tuesday, 11th October 2022.

The honour is in recognition of his contributions to national development.

Sen. Kyari who represented Borno North Senatorial District, resigned from the red chamber in March 2022, due to his election as the APC deputy national chairman (North).

“I’m writing formally to inform you of my resignation from the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Senator representing Borno North Senatorial District.
“This is as a result of my victory at the convention of our party, the APC on March 26 where I emerged as Deputy National Chairman, North,” Kyari had written to the the Senate in March.

Born January 1, 1960 in Borno State, Kyari was educated both in Nigeria and the United States. He attended Kaduna Capital School in 1974. He then proceeded to Barewa College Zaria where he obtained his WASSCE In 1979.

He attended the University of Tennessee Martin in USA where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in 1986. Thereafter in 1989, he attended Webster University, St.Louis Missouri USA for his Masters in Business Administration.

Kyari has had a wealth of experience in government and politics, especially since the return of democracy in Nigeria in 1999. He was elected to be a member of the Borno State House of Assembly under the defunct United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) in 1998.

He represented his constituency at the House of Representatives on the platform of the defunct All Peoples Party (APP) between 1999 -2003. From 2003 to 2005, he was made an Honorable Commissioner in Borno State and also from 2007 to 2011 he continued as Commissioner. In the 2015 elections, he was elected to represent the Borno North Senatorial District under the platform of the APC.
