Ryan Gosling recently revealed that his daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, had some initial confusion and skepticism about his decision to portray Ken in the highly anticipated Barbie movie.

In an interview with People, the actor shared that his children were puzzled because they simply weren’t interested in the Ken doll.

“They have no use for Ken,” Gosling explained. He admitted that he never played with Barbie dolls himself while growing up, and it was actually his daughters who introduced him to the iconic brand.

Despite their lack of enthusiasm for Ken, their familiarity with Barbie proved beneficial during the filming process. During the movie’s production, Gosling’s kids were frequently present as he prepared for his role. “My kids were around for the months at home as I was prepping for it,” he revealed.

“So they, inadvertently, were prepping for it too.” On the day they visited the set, they provided immense support to their father, both emotionally and off-camera.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Gosling’s casting in the Barbie movie has faced scrutiny. Back in May, he addressed critics on social media who questioned his suitability for the role.

Responding to the backlash, he jokingly remarked, “If people don’t want to play with my Ken, there are many other Kens to play with.”

Director Greta Gerwig, however, made it clear that Gosling was her one and only choice for the role. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she expressed her unwavering belief in his ability to portray Ken.

“It was only ever Ryan Gosling,” Gerwig emphasized. “Margot and I just wouldn’t take no for an answer.” She further described her conviction, stating that she envisioned the movie as a perfect fit for both Margot Robbie as Barbie and Gosling as Ken.

Gerwig eloquently described Gosling’s unique portrayal of Ken, blending the qualities of legendary actors such as Marlon Brando, Gene Wilder, John Barrymore, and John Travolta. The director’s unshakable confidence in Gosling’s ability to bring Ken to life underscores the actor’s undeniable talent and versatility.

The film, set to hit theaters on July 21, promises to be a delightful and entertaining adventure for audiences of all ages.
