The United States has long been a sought-after destination for international students pursuing higher education.

With its reputation for providing quality education and a wide range of financial aid opportunities, the US remains an appealing choice for students around the world.

Recognizing the financial challenges faced by students from developing countries like Nigeria, various forms of financial assistance, including scholarships and loans, are available to help alleviate the financial burden associated with studying in the US.

To support and encourage prospective international students, Prime Business Africa (PBA) has compiled a comprehensive list of colleges and universities in the US that offer financial aid and scholarships.

These institutions are committed to making higher education accessible to a diverse group of individuals by providing financial assistance tailored to the needs of international students.

PBA has therefore listed the colleges or universities offering some of these financial aids and scholarships.

Dartmouth College

Dartmouth College meets the demonstrated financial need of all admitted undergraduate students, including international students. The college offers scholarships and loans, which also include an allowance for travel to the United States.

Iowa State University

Iowa State University extends support to international students through their International Merit Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to freshmen based on a holistic review of their SAT or ACT scores, high school marks/grades, and can range from $2,000 to $10,000 per year, renewable.

Amherst College

Amherst College is another institution committed to providing need-based financial aid to financially disadvantaged international students. Once admitted, students’ financial needs are evaluated, and aid packages comprising scholarships, grants, and employment opportunities are offered to cover the determined need.

Colby-Sawyer College

Colby-Sawyer College recognizes the merit of international students and provides financial aid based on academic ability, measured by GPA. The scholarship amount can reach up to $8,000 per year. However, it’s important to note that Colby-Sawyer College does not fully meet the financial need of all students.

Clark University

Clark University  offers the prestigious Clark Presidential Scholarships to outstanding international students who display exceptional academic records and leadership potential. Approximately five students are awarded this full-tuition scholarship, including on-campus room and board, for all four years of study, regardless of their family’s financial need.

Additionally, first-year or transfer students have the opportunity to compete for the International Excellence Scholarships, ranging from $8,000 to $16,000 per year for up to four years.

Illinois Wesleyan University

Illinois Wesleyan University recognizes exceptional academic achievements and offers merit-based scholarships to highly qualified international applicants. These scholarships can range from $16,000 to $30,000 per year and are renewable for up to four years. Moreover, the university may award two full-tuition President’s International Student Scholarships annually.

Michigan State University

Michigan State University provides a limited number of scholarships and grants to deserving international students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. While these financial packages may not cover the full academic program, they are intended to support international students in their educational journey.
