‘You’ season 4 picks up right where the last season left off, with Joe faking his own death, and murdering his wife, Love.

Continuing the story, Joe is now in London under the guise of Jonathan Moore, a reserved professor of English Literature who is just trying to enjoy his European holiday.

Surprisingly (and thankfully), Joe’s newest target is not yet another poor, unsuspecting woman. Instead, Season 4 of You finds Joe actually being the one on the defense as he frantically tries to uncover a mysterious identity.

As per usual, the plot is filled with ample twists and turns in each episode, making this serial killer drama extremely addictive and a very interesting watch.

This 10-part series, split into two halves of five episodes each, is similar to previous seasons in that it introduces the characters through Joe’s narration, which I particularly enjoyed.

Each season of ‘You’ up to this point has been set in a different city, each with its own unique cast of character. Season 4 is no different.

There are certainly some stand-outs in the new supporting cast, Charlotte Ritchie gives a beautiful depth to her character Kate, who may be a member of the elite, but has an emotional back-story that balances out her initial “icy” attitude.

I really enjoyed watching Tilly Keeper as Lady Phoebe, who may be royalty but lacks the cruelty of her wealthy peers. Phoebe’s comedic timing is perfect, and like Kate, she brings a distinctive emotional touch as a woman who, underneath all the wealth, feels truly alone and misunderstood.

Ed Speleers gives a stellar performance as author Rhys Montrose, the unexpected member of the Oxford group, seeing as he was born into poverty.

As a whole, the new supporting cast works well against Joe, but some of their performance left a sour taste after two appearances.

Plot Overview

‘You’ Season 4 Review: The Hunter Becomes The Prey

After saving his co-worker’s girlfriend Kate, from a robbery attack, he is drawn into the elite socialite club in London.

The plot takes a turn when one of them is murdered and Joe is framed for it. Discovering who committed the crime and why Joe is the target drives the plot forward.

The tasteful development of his relationship with his next-door neighbour Kate, is a part of the plot I truly enjoyed. They didn’t start out well, but as the story progresses, we witness a enemies turned friends turned ‘murder buddies’ dynamic.

Ed Speleers performance as Rhys Montrose is one of my favourite, and his relationship with Joe is the most interesting. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the rest of the cast, again they became underwhelming after their first appearance.

The Oxford gang is simply not as memorable as the likes of Sherry (Shalita Grant) , Cary (Travis Van Winkle) and Conrad true MVPs of Season 3, or even Artisanal Soda Bro Benji (Lou Taylor Pucci) back in Season 1.

And of course, there’s no one like Love Quinn. Pedretti’s, outstanding performance as Love breathed  life into ‘You’, so when she met her end last season, it was hard to imagine how the series would survive without her.

There are some obvious flaws, such as Joe’s ability to afford a everything in London after having lost everything the previous season and how quickly he gets out of any situation.

Just don’t apply too much logic to it all, and this thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

This fourth season of ‘You’ is gripping and addictive. By the end of the fifth episode, you will be yearning for the season’s second half, which will air next month. Can’t Wait!!
