A short film inspired by the abduction of Chibok girls by Boko Haram in 2014 is set to begin streaming on April 14, 2023. Directed by the award-winning Nigerian-American filmmaker Kaelo Iyizoba, Boy Meets Girl follows the life-changing experience of 15-year-old Musa after an encounter with a young girl on a bus.

The film confronts the unsettling truth about the mass abduction of children in Nigeria and is a timely reminder of the country’s most infamous terror event.

Produced by Adnaan Muhammed-Ali and Conrad Johnson-Omodiagbe, the film won the award for Outstanding Experimental Film at the 2021 Abuja International Film Festival.

According to Muhammed-Ali, the film unveils some of the insidious tactics used by extremist groups to manipulate vulnerable individuals, and serves as a reminder to address the underlying grievances that fuel terrorism in Nigeria today.

Boy Meets Girl debuts on YouTube on April 14, exactly nine years after jihadists abducted 276 students from the Government Girls Secondary School in Borno State. Despite the global Bring Back Our Girls campaign that demanded their release, more than 100 of the girls are yet to return home.

Iyizoba noted that it becomes too easy to reduce entire lives to mere numbers over time, and we can distance ourselves from their humanity, forgetting that they loved and were loved, just like us. The film is a call to remember the humanity of those affected by terrorism and seek ways to address the underlying issues.

Boy Meets Girl is a must-watch for anyone interested in the plight of children in conflict zones and the impact of terrorism on vulnerable populations, especially the terrible plight of the Chibok girls.
