Excitement is brewing as the Nigerian drama film ‘Orah’ makes its way to the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2023.

The film, featuring acclaimed actor O.C. Ukeje and led by Nigerian-Canadian talent Oyin Oladejo, has secured its spot in the TIFF Industry selects line-up. The announcement was made by Akoroko, a prominent African cinema coverage company, on August 22, 2023.

‘Orah’ is among the twelve carefully selected films set to grace the festival’s screens for accredited buyers, offering a global stage for potential acquisitions.

Marking its 48th edition, TIFF 2023 promises a diverse showcase of artistic brilliance from across the globe. Scheduled for mid-September 2023, the festival will unite cinema enthusiasts and industry professionals alike.

‘Orah’ revolves around the compelling narrative of an illegal immigrant in Toronto who works as a cab driver. The story takes a poignant turn when her teenage son is tragically murdered in Nigeria.’

Fuelled by grief and a fierce sense of justice, the protagonist embarks on a mission to unveil and dismantle the international money laundering syndicate responsible for her son’s death. This revenge drama promises a gripping tale that transcends borders and emotions.

The visionary force behind ‘Orah’ is director Lonzo Nzekwe, a talented filmmaker of Canadian-Nigerian descent. Nzekwe, known for his work on ‘Anchor Baby,’ expressed his gratitude to the cast and crew, stating, “Congrats to our cast and crew in Canada and Nigeria.

You all are amazing.” Collaborating with Floyd Kane and Amos Adetuyi, Nzekwe spearheaded the production. The ensemble cast features stellar talents such as Tina Mba, Lucy Ejim, Emeka Nwagbaraocha, Femi Lawson, Ruby Akubueze, Somkele Iyah-Idahlama, Oris Erhuero, Morgan Bedard, Christopher Seivright, and Agape Mngomezulu. This fusion of gifted actors promises to breathe life into ‘Orah,’ creating an unforgettable cinematic experience.

The film’s creation spanned continents, with principal photography taking place in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, followed by a second shoot in Lagos, Nigeria. Lonzo Nzekwe generously shared glimpses of the cast and crew in action through photos and videos, fueling anticipation and excitement among fans and film enthusiasts alike.
