Peter Obi Denounces Attacks On Pastor Adeboye

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has distanced himself from the recent attacks on Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

Obi characterized the social media assault on the cleric as a calculated effort by the opposition to sow discord and animosity.

In a series of tweets posted on his official Twitter handle, the former governor of Anambra State clarified his stance on the matter.

Obi expressed his disapproval, stating, “The use of subterfuge by people masquerading as Obidients to abuse and insult eminent personalities like Most Reverend Pastor Enoch Adeboye or anyone else is most unacceptable. Obidients are by and large, law-abiding citizens.”

The controversy arose after Pastor Adeboye’s statement that the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, could fix Nigeria with God’s help, which sparked intense criticism.

However, Obi emphasized the need to reject ethnic or religious divisions, highlighting that political opponents often deploy such methods to gain undue advantage and foster confusion.

The Obi-Datti Media Office also released a statement signed by the Head of the Media Office, Diran Onifade, dissociating Obi and members of the Obidients family from the social media attacks on Pastor Adeboye.

The statement made it clear that supporters of Peter Obi hold deep respect for Pastor Adeboye and all respected Nigerians, and they are not involved in any form of online harassment, particularly regarding a statement that Pastor Adeboye did not make.

The statement from the media office condemned the opposition’s strategy of orchestrating false campaigns and attributing them to Peter Obi’s supporters, characterizing it as a desperate ploy by election riggers.

The media office further highlighted that personal insults do not align with Peter Obi’s character and emphasized that he does not encourage his followers to engage in such behaviour. Instead, Obi advocates for respectful and constructive discourse.
