Merry Men 3' Dominates Nollywood Box Office With ₦33.4 Million

‘Merry Men 3’ has soared to the top of the Nollywood box office charts, raking in an impressive ₦33.4 million in just one week.

The much-anticipated sequel in the Merry Men franchise, directed by AY Makun, has captivated audiences and set a high bar for Nigerian cinema in 2023.

The movie’s incredible success is evident in its earnings, with ₦18.6 million amassed over its opening weekend and an additional ₦14.8 million during the following four days, from Monday, October 16th to Thursday, October 19th.

‘Merry Men 3’ wasted no time in establishing itself as a crowd-puller, taking the industry by storm since its premiere on Saturday, October 13, 2023.

The film’s plot revolves around three of the merry men, played by AY Makun, Ramsey Nouah, and William Uchemba, who find themselves pitted against a formidable adversary, Dafe, portrayed by Chidi Mokeme. Dafe’s thirst for vengeance stems from a mission gone awry in Russia, where he was left behind.

He takes the law into his own hands, targeting corrupt politicians, believing that the merry men have forsaken their duty to deliver justice.

Moses Inwang, the director of ‘Merry Men 3,’ skillfully guides the ensemble cast, which includes renowned actors such as Sam Dede, Segun Arinze, Bucci Franklin, Nadia Buari, Jide Kosoko, Ufuoma McDermott, Iyabo Ojo, Francis Onwochei, Regina Daniels, and Caroline Hutchings.

The Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) reported ‘Merry Men 3’ as the clear winner in Nollywood’s box office sweepstakes, with a seven-day gross of ₦33.4 million.

This impressive figure displaced ‘Expandables four,’ which held the second position with a seven-day gross of ₦14.6 million and a total gross of ₦97.9 million.

In the fourth place, we find ‘Something Like Gold,’ with a seven-day gain of ₦11.5 million and a cumulative gross of ₦45.1 million. Following closely in fifth place is ‘A Weekend To Forget,’ which brought in ₦6.2 million over seven days and has accumulated a total gross of ₦44.1 million.
