‘Bridgerton’ Season 3 Scores Netflix’s Biggest Opening Weekend Series

The third season of “Bridgerton” has recorded the show’s biggest opening weekend to date, according to Netflix’s rankings. The first half of season three gained 45.05 million views (total hours watched divided by running time) worldwide after its May 16 premiere, equating to 165.2 million hours of viewing time.

In comparison, season two, which debuted in March 2022, amassed just over 193 million hours of viewing time globally for the full season. Given the longer running time of season two (510 minutes for the entire season versus 220 minutes for the first half of season three), its opening weekend view count stands at around 22.7 million. Season two had a three-day opening period versus four days for the current season, but this extra day only partially explains season three’s lead.

The shorter run time for the first four episodes of season three, coupled with Netflix’s increased subscriber base—now about 50 million more than in March 2022—contributed to the series-high opening weekend.

In addition to breaking its own opening weekend record, “Bridgerton” season three also achieved the highest single weekly view count for any Netflix series, irrespective of language, since Netflix began ranking its titles by views in June 2023. It ranks second among all titles in single-week views, trailing only the Millie Bobby Brown-led film “Damsel,” which garnered 50.8 million views in mid-March.
