Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema has once again etched his name in the annals of music history, this time at the prestigious 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris.

The event, which showcased some of the most prominent figures in football, both past and present, witnessed a performance by the Jonzing World star, who took the stage in his distinctive all-black ensemble to perform his chart-topping hit, “Calm Down.”

In a moment that will be remembered for years to come, Rema stood at the forefront as the first African artist to grace the Ballon d’Or stage with his musical prowess.

His performance was nothing short of spectacular, as he serenaded the audience with a mesmerizing mid-tempo rendition of “Calm Down,” a song that has captivated the hearts of millions and garnered over 1 billion streams on Spotify.

Accompanied by two talented dancers on each side, Rema’s electrifying presence added a unique African flavor to the glitzy event, further solidifying the global influence of Afrobeats in the world of sports and entertainment.

This extraordinary achievement is yet another milestone in Rema’s rapidly evolving career. Earlier this year, the young artist, in collaboration with American pop sensation Selena Gomez, clinched the 2023 MTV Video Music Award for the remix of “Calm Down.”

The duo secured the honour in the inaugural Best Afrobeats category, celebrating their contribution to the worldwide success of the song.

“Calm Down,” initially released on February 11, 2022, is the second single from Rema’s debut studio album, “Rave & Roses.”

This track has become an anthem of unity and celebration, bridging continents and bringing people together through its infectious beat and unforgettable lyrics.

Rema’s remarkable performance at the Ballon d’Or ceremony places him in the illustrious company of Nigerian music icons Davido and Burna Boy. Davido made history by performing at the 2022 FIFA World Cup final in Qatar, becoming the first Nigerian artist to grace the World Cup stage.

Meanwhile, Burna Boy’s electrifying performance at the 2023 Champions League final in Istanbul marked him as the first African artist to achieve this significant feat.
