Olamilekan Agbeleshebioba, better known as Laycon, the winner of Big Brother Naija season 5, has recently stirred up a social media storm with a controversial statement.
On his X account, the rapper and songwriter expressed his astonishment at the presence of Nigerians actively hoping and praying for the country’s condition not to improve because their preferred candidate is not the current President.

Oluwashina, one user, questioned whether actively hoping and praying for the country’s woes to continue can actually contribute to corruption and mismanagement. He urged Laycon to use his platform to advocate for good governance rather than perpetuate such divisive notions.

Another user, Gregory, encouraged Laycon to openly support a political candidate, specifically mentioning Jagaban, a term often associated with Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He reminded Laycon that when he won BBNaija, the whole of Nigeria celebrated him, emphasizing that the nation can unite for a common cause despite tribal differences.
Blessed Ajoke stressed the importance of acknowledging the truth about the government’s failures and called Laycon’s opinion baseless. Laycon, however, took to his account to provide further insight into his perspective in a series of posts.
He argued that the country’s leaders reflect the character of its people. Laycon contended that, unless individuals undergo a transformation, the nation’s leadership will remain unchanged. He also addressed the responses to his initial tweet, urging people to read and understand before reacting and encouraging introspection.
Laycon emphasized that bad leaders are often a product of the society’s values and attitudes. He pointed out that individuals who engage in dishonest practices during crises, such as fuel scarcity, could potentially become bad leaders if given the opportunity.
He also questioned whether individuals who earn money in dollars pray for exchange rate fluctuations. He concluded by suggesting that individuals direct their critical energy toward self-improvement.
