Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has pledged to contribute the sum of $35,000 for the forthcoming Edo State International Film Festival.
The governor’s commitment to bolstering the local creative sector was unveiled during his address at the festival’s industry mixer held in Lagos.
Governor Obaseki expressed unwavering support for the creative industry and highlighted his ambition for Edo State to compete with Lagos as a prominent creative hub in Africa.
This strategic move aims to foster artistic growth and generate increased opportunities for artists, filmmakers, and other professionals within the creative field.
Furthermore, Governor Obaseki addressed the matter of repatriation of stolen artifacts from Benin, stressing that the primary concern is the rightful ownership of these cultural treasures, even if they continue to be exhibited abroad.
During the event, Governor Obaseki engaged with creative and Nollywood practitioners, laying the foundation for a promising festival later this year.
