Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna and winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, has rejected the latest offers presented by the show’s sponsors in relation to her prize winnings. The decision was made following a meeting held at the MultiChoice office on Thursday, April 18, 2024, which ended without a resolution.

Phyna, accompanied by her legal representative, Olawale Amousa, and Michael Obinna Nwabufo, the acting president of the Practitioners of Content Creating, Skit-making, and Influencers Guild of Nigeria (PCCSIGN), convened to address the ongoing prize redemption issues. This discussion was prompted by Phyna’s public expression of frustration on Instagram, where she revealed that she had yet to claim some of her prizes from her 2022 victory.

Among the prizes in contention is 1 Bitcoin (BTC), valued at over ₦90 million, which Phyna emphasized as non-negotiable. PCCSIGN had previously intervened by sending a letter to the organizers, outlining the outstanding prizes owed to Phyna, including the BTC from Quidax Global, a year’s supply of Pepsi products from Seven-Up Bottling Company, a trip for two to Dubai from Travelbeta, and a year’s supply of soap from Evans Industries (Unik Soap).

In a recent update, PCCSIGN confirmed that agreements with Pepsi and Unik Soap have been reached, with deliveries scheduled for Friday, April 19, 2024. However, the proposed offers from Travelbeta and Quidax Global were rejected by both parties involved in the meeting.

Nwabufo elaborated on the rejected offers, stating, “Travelbeta proposed a trip for two to Morocco or Kenya, but these options were not acceptable to Phyna, who was initially promised destinations like Maldives or Jamaica.”

Regarding the 1 BTC prize, an exchange rate reflecting the 2022 Naira equivalent, amounting to ₦13 million, was proposed. This offer was declined by PCCSIGN and Phyna’s legal team due to concerns about potential repercussions resulting from MultiChoice’s alleged negligence.

Nwabufo emphasized that the agreed-upon 1 BTC prize should be based on the current exchange rate. MultiChoice has since agreed to revisit this issue with Quidax Global and provide a response to both PCCSIGN and Phyna.
