Dr. Zacch A. Adedeji, a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience in finance and public administration, has assumed the role of Acting Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
The appointment follows his previous role as Special Adviser on Revenue to the President. Academically, Dr. Adedeji is a distinguished scholar. Hailing from Oyo State, he earned a first-class degree in Accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, a testament to his commitment to academic excellence.
His pursuit of knowledge led him to obtain a Master’s degree in Accounting from the same institution. Undeterred, he went further in his academic journey by achieving a PhD in Public Sector Finance, again at Obafemi Awolowo University.

His dedication to expanding his horizons also saw him earn a certificate in Comparative Tax Policy and Administration from the esteemed Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Dr. Adedeji is a recognized Fellow of both ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria) and CITN (Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria).
In his professional career, Dr. Adedeji’s trajectory has been nothing short of impressive. He commenced his journey at Procter & Gamble Company (P&G), where he eventually ascended to the position of Manager. Subsequently, he served as the Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State from 2011 to 2015 under the administration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
During his tenure as Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Adedeji played a pivotal role in spearheading the establishment of a Medium-Term Financial (MTF) strategy that revolutionized financial and budgetary management in the state.
This strategy facilitated financial reporting excellence, resulting in sustainable growth in cash flow, which was utilized for both recurrent and capital expenditures, including the timely completion of over 200 roads and bridges, as well as extensive road repairs across all 33 Local Governments in Oyo State.
Under his leadership, significant achievements included raising the minimum wage from N7,500 to N19,000 and introducing a 13th-month salary for civil servants.
Dr. Adedeji’s financial acumen also led to annual budgetary savings of N7.2 billion through enhanced state finance processes. Remarkably, he maintained a record of not incurring new state debt and successfully reduced the state’s debt by 50%.
