At the 75th  Emmy Awards, Quinta Brunson clinched the Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series for her portrayal of Janine Teagues in Abbott Elementary.

Brunson’s historic win marked the first time a Black woman had claimed victory in the category in over three decades, with Isabel Sanford’s win for The Jeffersons in 1981 being the last.

Anthony Anderson, the star of Black-ish, took on the role of the evening’s host, setting the stage for a memorable event. The 2024 Emmy Awards commenced with a spectacular opening, featuring Anderson’s poignant monologue.

The actor paid homage to television’s legacy by reciting theme songs from iconic shows like Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Good Times, The Facts of Life, and Miami Vice, accompanied by an extraordinary and amusing choir.

A highlight of the evening was a special cast reunion of Martin, where the four leads reminisced about their time on Fox, discussed Emmy snubs, and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share this moment with the audience.

Ayo Edebiri added to the night’s triumphs by securing the Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series for her role as Sydney Adamu in The Bear.

In a competitive category, Edebiri triumphed over Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary) and Jessica Williams (Shrinking), joining the esteemed ranks of Black actresses Jackée Harry (1987) and Sheryl Lee Ralph, who won the award in 2022.
