Malawi’s Vice-President Saulos Chilima and nine others have died in a plane crash. Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera confirmed the news, stating that their aircraft disappeared on the morning of June 10, 2024, while flying within the country.

He died aged 51.

Chilima had been vice-president of Malawi since 2014.

His second term as Vice President was from 3 February 2020 – 10 June 2024

His first term as Vice President was from 31 May 2014 to 31 May 2019

Served as the Minister of Economic Planning and Development, as well as Head of Public Sector Reforms.

At the time of the crash, Chilima was on his way to represent the government at the burial of former minister Ralph Kasambara.

Chilima is the second global world leader to mysteriously die in a missing plane. Recall that Prime Business Africa reported that on May 20, 2024, Iranian state media confirmed the death of President Ebrahim Raisi following a helicopter crash in a mountain region of East Azerbaijan province.

The crash also claimed the lives of Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other senior officials.
