The tragic incident involving Nollywood actor John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, and four other actors who lost their lives in a boat mishap in Anam River, Anambra State, has stirred up various rumours.

One of such rumours suggested that Junior Pope was buried by the riverside and later exhumed due to pressure on authorities. The Anambra State Police Command has  debunked the claims.

In a statement released by the Anambra State Police spokesperson, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, it was confirmed that Junior Pope’s body has neither been buried nor exhumed. He said the actor’s remains are currently in a mortuary in the state.

Mr. Ikenga further explained that while the families of three of the deceased actors agreed to have their loved ones buried beside the river, one family later decided to exhume the body for a proper burial in their home state. The bodies of the other two actors remain buried by the riverside.

The police have also commenced an investigation into the tragic incident. Statements have been obtained from the producer of the ill-fated movie, Adanma Luke, and two boat drivers.

This investigation, ordered by the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Aderemi Adeoye, aims to determine any criminal liability in the mishap.

Superintendent Ikenga emphasized the police’s commitment to ensuring a thorough and impartial investigation, promising not to compromise on the process.
