John Cena Speaks On 'Fast & Furious Feud'

Behind the scenes, the feud between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, which gained notoriety in 2016, has been the subject of much speculation and scrutiny. However, as the dust settles and reconciliation takes place, John Cena, a recent addition to the franchise, offers insights into the dynamics of working alongside two strong personalities.

Cena, who joined the “Fast” family in 2021’s “F9: The Fast Saga” as Jakob Toretto, reflected on the rumoured tensions between Diesel and Johnson during a recent appearance on the “Armchair Expert” podcast.

When asked about the reported on-set tussle, Cena acknowledged the presence of two highly driven individuals, noting, “You have two very alpha, driven people. You get two, there can only be one.”

Coming from a background in WWE, Cena understands the importance of navigating a competitive environment filled with established veterans. His experience taught him the value of humility and teamwork, principles he carried into his role within the “Fast” franchise. “Man, you gotta remember I got dropped into a locker room where [we have] generational vets… I’ve been in that environment; know the room and just kind of adapt to what’s going on,” Cena shared.

Despite the existing tensions, Cena expressed gratitude for being welcomed into the “Fast” family, recognizing the franchise’s legacy and the respect it commands. “Regardless of how they look physically in comparison to another human being, this is one IP that has had nine instalments and it’s an action movie — that’s rarefied air,” Cena emphasized. “At the very least, there has to be respect for that.”

Cena emphasized his role as a guest within the franchise, focused on contributing positively rather than vying for dominance. “I’m not trying to get the sandbox. That’s not my thing. I’m grateful for what you’ve given me, I just want to be the best fire truck I can,” he remarked.

The resolution of the Diesel-Johnson feud signals a turning point for the franchise, with both actors committing to leading with brotherhood and unity moving forward. As Johnson returns as Hobbs in the upcoming “Fast X” and beyond, the stage is set for a new chapter characterized by collaboration and mutual respect.
