Hamas Confirms Second Release Of Hostages

In a recent announcement, Hamas confirmed the resumption of the second release of Israeli hostages, as stipulated in the truce agreement forged after the October 7 attacks. The confirmation comes after a temporary delay in the process.

According to a statement from Hamas, the organization responded affirmatively to the mediation efforts of both Egyptian and Qatari officials, ensuring the truce agreement’s continuity.

The decision followed assurances from Israel, conveyed through mediators, to uphold all conditions outlined in the accord.

The initial postponement by Hamas was attributed to alleged breaches by Israel. The accusations included violations related to the delivery of humanitarian aid to the northern Gaza Strip and the criteria for selecting Palestinian prisoners for release.

Hamas insisted that the selection process should be based on the duration of detainees’ imprisonment.

Furthermore, Hamas accused Israeli forces of firing upon individuals attempting to move from the southern to the northern part of the Gaza Strip, an act prohibited by Israeli authorities.

A report from the UN humanitarian agency OCHA on Saturday documented instances where Israeli forces reportedly opened fire and used tear gas on people heading northwards on Friday.

Tragically, at least one person was reported killed, and dozens sustained injuries. The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza reported seven additional injuries in similar incidents on Saturday.

Israeli officials, however, firmly denied any violation of the terms agreed upon during the pause in hostilities.
