Mohbad: Netizens Reacts To Autopsy Result

The controversial relationship between Nigerian artists and politicians has repeatedly come under scrutiny. From praising politicians in their songs to endorsing them during elections, artists have not shied away from aligning themselves with the political elite.

This article delves into this controversial alliance, shedding light on some of the most notable instances and examining the recent tragic events surrounding the mysterious death of singer MohBad, which has further amplified these concerns.

It is not uncommon for Nigerian artists to shower politicians with praise through their music. For instance, Olamide’s reference to “Governor Ambode” as his “father” in the hit song “Fada Fada” featuring Phyno raised eyebrows. Davido didn’t hold back either, referring to Dele Momodu as his “boy” in the song “Bad, Badoo, Baddest” featuring Falz and Olamide.

Naira Marley’s “Samuel Larry ti settle e” line in “PXTA” added fuel to the fire as Samuel Larry, the subject of this line, has recently found himself embroiled in a controversy surrounding the untimely death of music star MohBad.

The MohBad Tragedy

On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, the Nigerian entertainment industry was shocked by the news of the death of the singer MohBad. What should have been a promising career came to an abrupt end, leaving fans and colleagues in disbelief. However, what followed his demise was even more shocking.

A posthumous petition attributed to MohBad surfaced online, where he alleged that there was an imminent threat to his life and property damage orchestrated by music promoter Samson Erinfolami Balogun, alias Sam Larry, along with a group of 15 individuals.

The incident, as outlined in the petition dated June 27, 2023, revolves around a video shoot that took place on June 25, 2023. During this video shoot, MohBad and fellow artist Zlatan Ibile were allegedly confronted by Sam Larry and his associates, who were armed.

The petition further alleges that the group caused damage to equipment valued at over N5 million. MohBad claimed that he was physically assaulted during this altercation, barely escaping with injuries.

What raises significant concerns is the statement made by Sam Larry, who claimed to be acting on behalf of Oba Elegushi of Lagos State, further complicating the gravity of the situation.

The Palace of Oba Elegushi has since released a statement over its alleged link with Sam Larry. According to the statement, the Elegushi Royal Family said Sam Larry does not work for them and has never been an associate of theirs.

The petition, a plea for justice and protection, said: “Sir, I call on your good office to save my life from the above-mentioned persons and bring them to book.” The events surrounding MohBad’s death raise troubling questions about the relationship between artists and politicians and the extent to which it can lead to dire consequences.

MohBad’s career was marred by controversies even before his tragic demise. In February 2022, he faced legal troubles when the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested him, along with fellow artist Zinoleesky and four others, for possession of illegal substances, including MDMA and cannabis.

Dramatic videos captured the raid at their Lekki residence in Lagos, but fortunately, they were later released. Adding to his encounter with the NDLEA, MohBad publicly accused Naira Marley, his former boss at Marlian Records, of domestic violence in October 2022, marking the end of his association with the label.

It has been alleged that since his public accusation against Naira Marley, MohBad became the target of numerous life threats.

He faced harassment and assaults orchestrated by various groups, and a figurative ‘vagabond’ mark was seemingly placed upon him, deterring show promoters from working with him.

Following MohBad’s tragic passing, there is a shroud of uncertainty looming over the silence of Naira Marley and Sam Larry, raising suspicions that they may have left the country.

The relationship between Nigerian artists and politicians has once again come under scrutiny, with the MohBad tragedy serving as a reminder of the complexities and potential dangers associated with such alliances.

As the Nigerian entertainment industry deals with the loss of a promising talent, it is imperative that authorities investigate the allegations made in MohBad’s posthumous petition. Only through a thorough examination of these issues can justice be served.
