Wigwe: RCCG Suspend City Of David’s Pastor

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has suspended City Of David Parish’s Senior Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, effective immediately. The suspension comes after the elaborate 60th birthday celebration for his wife, Siju.

Iluyomade, who also oversees the Apapa Family of the church’s annex, received a letter of suspension over the weekend and was replaced by Pastor Charles Kpandei of the church’s Resurrection Parish Region 11.

According to inside sources, the suspension was in response to the public backlash against the birthday party, which was seen as insensitive, given the recent death of Herbert Wigwe, the former CEO of Access Bank. Wigwe was an important benefactor to the church before his passing, and many felt organising the party was very insensitive.

The suspension is also linked to two other issues: an audit of the church and Iluyomade’s alleged resistance to being transferred from the parish. The church’s Governing Council met to discuss these matters and came to a resolve to suspend Iluyomade for three months.

During this time, the pastor next in line will be in charge, and upon his return, Iluyomade will resume at the church’s headquarters, Throne of Grace, Ebute Metta, Lagos, not the City of David.

Iluyomade holds the position of Special Assistant to the RCCG General Overseer on Christian Social Responsibility through His Love Foundation, and it is unclear if this responsibility has been taken from him.
