‘Viral Video Saying I Was Mentally Unstable Made Me Loose Jobs’ – Hanks Anuku

Nollywood veteran Hanks Anuku has spoken about how a viral video falsely portraying him as mentally unstable affected his career and mental health.

In an interview with content creator Lucky Udu, Anuku explained that the disturbing video, which went virial online in 2022, showed him in tattered clothes and appearing to talk to himself. This video led to widespread speculation about his mental stability.

Despite a disclaimer from his colleague, Shan George, and the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) , many, including filmmaker Adanma Luke, continued to insist that Anuku was truly mentally unstable.

Anuku revealed that the footage was actually taken from a movie set, where he was preparing for a role as a madman. “I was trying to get into character for a role I was going to play, a madman role. Someone who was not in his correct senses or right frame of mind,” he explained.

Anuku said the video was circulated by individuals aiming to tarnish his reputation, caused him significant personal pain. He lost friends and was blacklisted by filmmakers, leading to a period of joblessness and financial loss. “I lost friends, producers no longer contacted me for jobs. I lost a lot of money, I lost jobs, and I was jobless. People did not care about me,”

Despite the ordeal, Anuku credited divine intervention for helping him through the challenging times. “It was God who directed my footsteps to a good soul,” he said,
