Inspired by Percival Everett’s seminal work, “Erasure,” Jefferson penned and directed “American Fiction” with an audacious flair. The narrative orbits around Thelonious “Monk” Ellison, portrayed by the enigmatic Jeffrey Wright. Ellison, an author grappling with the disparity between his own literary merit and the commercial success of stereotype-laden works, embarks on a satirical journey with his novel “My Pafology,” penned under the pseudonym Stagg R. Leigh. What ensues is a whirlwind of deception and repercussions as the book catapults into unexpected acclaim.
