Lagos Police Confirm Tiwa Savage's Petition Against Davido

The Lagos State Police Command has initiated an investigation into a petition filed by renowned Nigerian singer and songwriter, Tiwa Savage.

The petition alleges cyberbullying and threats to her life by none other than Grammy-nominated artist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido. This development sheds light on the intersection of fame, social media, and the potential consequences for one’s personal life.

The petition, dated January 9, was addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Adegoke Fayoade. Tiwa Savage accuses Davido of using disrespectful language in response to a post that included herself and Sophia Momodu, the singer’s baby mama, on Instagram.

In her complaint, Tiwa Savage expressed disappointment at Davido’s actions and reminded him of her unwavering support during difficult times, particularly when he lost his son.

Confirming the receipt of the petition, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, stated that the investigation has commenced.

The police will delve into the allegations, seeking to unravel the complexities of the dispute between the two prominent figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

According to the petition, Tiwa Savage recounts how she made a post on December 23, which featured her and Sophia Momodu’s Instagram Story. Davido allegedly responded with messages to Tiwa Savage’s manager, instructing her not to respond and accusing her of taunting him with disrespectful and derogatory words.

Tiwa Savage, in turn, asserts that Davido’s actions are not only unethical but also pose a direct threat to her constitutional rights to life, privacy, and dignity.

Tiwa Savage highlights that Davido’s actions may be in violation of Chapter 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

She contends that the situation may constitute both online and offline harassment, not only affecting her but also members of her team. Moreover, she invokes Section 24(2)(a) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015, suggesting that Davido’s behavior may have legal consequences.

Tiwa Savage emphasizes that she is making this complaint to ensure accountability. She explicitly states that if any harm befalls her or her family, she expects the Nigerian Police Force to hold David Adeleke responsible.

This adds a layer of gravity to the situation, as it raises concerns about the potential real-world implications of online disputes among public figures.
