Israel has unleashed a relentless and devastating offensive on the Gaza Strip. This offensive comes in response to threats from the Palestinian militant group Hamas, which has taken around 150 hostages following a weekend assault.

Hamas vowed to execute some of these hostages if Israel continued its air strikes without warning. The conflict has intensified as Israel imposed a total siege on Gaza, effectively cutting off essential supplies such as food, water, and electricity.

This move has raised concerns about the already dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza deteriorating rapidly. Hamas carried out an unprecedented ground, air, and sea assault, leaving Israel in shock and drawing comparisons to the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States.

The death toll has risen to over 900 in Israel, with the country responding with a barrage of strikes on Gaza, resulting in a death toll of 687 there.

The Israeli army claimed that it had regained control of the Gaza border following a mass breach by Palestinian gunmen on Saturday.

It also reported recovering the bodies of approximately 1,500 Hamas militants inside Israel, underscoring the scale of the assault. Israeli communities around the border have been evacuated as well.

Gaza City has witnessed repeated explosions and fireballs, as Israeli air strikes continue to devastate the region. Hamas has accused Israel of killing four of its hostages and warned that it may start executing them in response to continued air strikes without warning.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu drew parallels between Hamas and the Islamic State group (ISIS) and announced plans to deploy “unprecedented force.” Israel has also called up 300,000 army reservists for its campaign named “Swords of Iron.”

This conflict has not only raised tensions in the Middle East but also sparked international concern. Iran, Israel’s arch-enemy, praised the Hamas attack, although it denied direct involvement in the operation. Meanwhile, the United Nations and various countries have expressed deep distress over the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.
