According to Scott Trotter, senior director of Public Relations at the university, the incident occurred at 12:25 p.m. local time near the campus food court as Charlie Kirk began speaking.
“A single shot rang out as Mr. Kirk began his rally,” Trotter confirmed, adding that the campus was immediately closed for the day. Initially, the suspect was not in custody, but university officials later confirmed the attacker had been apprehended, and investigations are underway.

FBI and Police Respond to Charlie Kirk Shooting
The FBI stated it is “closely monitoring” the situation. Director Kash Patel confirmed agents were dispatched to assist local law enforcement. “Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected,” Patel said.
Political Leaders Condemn Attack, Call for Prayers
President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social: “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”
California Governor Gavin Newsom condemned the shooting, calling it “disgusting, vile, and reprehensible” and urging Americans to “reject political violence in EVERY form.”
Vice President JD Vance described Kirk as “a genuinely good guy and a young father,” asking Americans to keep him in their prayers.
Other leaders, including Attorney General Pamela Bondi, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., also expressed support for Kirk.
