Drone Terror: Nigeria’s Airspace Under Siege – Zulum Warns

Governor Alleges Sabotage

Governor Babagana Zulum

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has sounded the alarm over the increasing use of drones by Boko Haram insurgents, calling for an immediate review of Nigeria’s air safety and defence mechanisms. Zulum made this urgent appeal during an interview with journalists in Mafa, Borno State, following a recent attack by terrorists who deployed a drone to target a key military asset.

“This is frightening. In Dikwa, I was told drones were used. The proliferation of drones, particularly in the hands of non-state actors, is of great concern for the entire country. We have to do something to stop this,” Zulum said, emphasizing that the incident poses a direct threat to national security.

The governor stressed that Nigeria’s borders and airspace need to be strengthened to prevent future attacks. “Our borders need to be strengthened and our airspace needs to be strengthened as well. This is something that we need to address urgently; this is not an issue confined to Borno alone,” Zulum stated.

Zulum also highlighted the need for collaboration between state and federal governments, as well as the military high command, to identify and address security gaps. “I believe there might be sabotage within that has to be identified and addressed. We don’t have to blame each other; we have to come together and resolve this situation,” he said.
