President Bola Tinubu has announced a major shake-up in the military top brass, appointing new service chiefs in a bid to strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the changes are part of the Federal Government’s efforts to enhance the country’s security.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelGeneral Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa, who has been relieved of his duties. Major-General W. Shaibu has been named as the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke and Rear Admiral I. Abbas have been appointed as the new Chiefs of Air and Naval Staff, respectively. Chief of Defence Intelligence Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position.
In a statement, President Tinubu expressed his appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other service chiefs for their dedicated leadership and patriotic service. He also charged the newly appointed service chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them and to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
“The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expresses most profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa and the other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service, and dedicated leadership,” the statement reads.
“The President charges the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
The statement added that all appointments take immediate effect.
