Nigeria is poised to unlock up to $3 billion in logistics investment and generate approximately $18 million in annual efficiency savings with the implementation of its National Single Window (NSW) trade platform, according to Dele Kelvin Oye, Chairman of the Alliance for Economic Research and Ethics (AERE).
The digital platform, designed to integrate government agencies involved in trade into a single online portal, is expected to drastically simplify import and export procedures when launched on March 27, 2026. The NSW aims to reduce cargo clearance time at Nigerian ports from 18-21 days to under 48 hours, addressing long-standing competitiveness challenges.
However, Oye emphasized that the success of the reform hinges on strong private sector participation in the governance and implementation of the platform.

The NSW integrates various agencies, including the Nigeria Customs Service, NAFDAC, and the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), into a single digital ecosystem. Oye noted that Nigeria’s decision to domicile the NSW under the NRS, a tax authority, deviates from global best practices.
“Singapore’s TradeNet processes 99% of permits within 10 minutes. Rwanda’s Single Window saved $18 million annually and reduced import time from 11 days to 1.5 days. Ghana’s GCNet cut clearance steps from 12 officers to 3. These successes share a common thread: private sector leadership or deep partnership,” Oye said.
AERE recommends relocating the NSW to the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), with NRS as a stakeholder, to align with international standards and position Nigeria as a trade hub.
“Nigeria must choose: will the NSW be a tool for extracting revenue or a platform for unleashing trade?” Oye queried.
The Alliance for Economic Research and Ethics is a Nigerian non-profit focused on strengthening public and private sectors through research, advocacy, and policy support.
