Seplat’s ANOH Gas Plant Delivers First Gas, Begins Domestic LPG Supply

January 20, 2026

Seplat Energy Plc has recorded a major milestone in Nigeria’s gas development drive with the commencement of production at its 300 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) Assa North–Ohaji South (ANOH) gas processing plant, marking the delivery of first gas to the domestic market, Prime Business Africa reports.

The company said gas supply formally began on Friday, January 16, 2026, following the completion of the 11-kilometre Indorama gas export pipeline and receipt of regulatory approvals from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). Gas is currently being supplied to Indorama Petrochemical Company under firm and interruptible Gas Sales Agreements (GSAs).

To enable the start-up, four upstream wells that had been on standby since November 2025 were brought online. Since first gas, wet gas production has stabilised at between 40 and 52 MMscfd of processed gas delivered directly to the Indorama Petrochemical Plant. Condensate output has reached between 2,000 and 2,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboepd) and is expected to rise as production ramps up toward the plant’s full design capacity.

Seplat disclosed that preparations are also underway to commence gas sales to Nigeria LNG (NLNG), with an offtake agreement structured on an interruptible basis. The company said this arrangement will support further scaling of production toward the full 300 MMscfd capacity. Meanwhile, construction work has resumed on the OB3 pipeline export route by the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC), which is designated as the primary channel for supplying ANOH gas to the wider domestic market. A revised completion timeline is expected to be announced later.

The ANOH gas plant was developed by ANOH Gas Processing Company (AGPC), an incorporated joint venture between Seplat Energy and NGIC. The integrated facility comprises two 150 MMscfd gas processing trains, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) recovery units, condensate stabilisation units, a 16-megawatt power plant and supporting infrastructure. Seplat said the plant has been built to operate with zero routine flaring.

Spanning the unitised OML 53 and OML 21 acreage, the ANOH development unlocks an estimated 4.6 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of condensate-rich gas resources. As of year-end 2024, Seplat’s working interest 2P reserves in the unitised field stood at 0.8 Tcf. The company is expected to generate revenue from wet gas sales into the ANOH plant from OML 53, as well as dividends from its 50 per cent equity stake in AGPC.

Seplat noted that LPG produced from ANOH, combined with output from its Sapele Gas Plant and the Bonny River Terminal (BRT), positions the company as a leading supplier of clean cooking fuel in Nigeria. The ANOH plant will also process previously flared gas from the Ohaji field, supporting Seplat’s onshore End of Routine Flaring programme and its broader sustainability objectives.

The company further highlighted that the ANOH project was delivered without a single Lost Time Incident (LTI), recording 17.5 million man-hours of work with no recordable safety incidents.

Commenting on the development, Seplat Energy’s Chief Executive Officer, Roger Brown, described ANOH as the first of seven critical gas projects identified by the Federal Government to commence operations.

“ANOH is an important strategic project for Seplat, our partner NGIC, and Nigeria as a whole,” Brown said. “It has taken significant commitment to deliver this project in a part of the onshore Niger Delta with limited gas infrastructure, and we are extremely proud of the achievement.”

He added that the facility represents Seplat’s third major onshore gas processing plant and increases the company’s joint venture gross gas processing capacity to over 850 MMscfd. According to him, the project will generate material income for Seplat, reduce carbon intensity and support the company’s target of reaching 200,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboepd) by 2030.

Beyond ANOH, Seplat also announced another milestone in domestic energy supply, confirming the successful first domestic lifting of LPG (butane) from the Bonny River Terminal in Rivers State. The achievement, recorded in partnership with its joint venture partner, NNPC Limited, marks the commencement of domestic LPG supply from the terminal and is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s energy security and access to clean cooking fuel.

The company said the combined impact of ANOH gas production and domestic LPG supply underscores its commitment to expanding energy access, supporting industrial growth and advancing Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy sources.
