November 26, 2025

The Federal Government Committee investigating the controversial dismissal of five medical doctors at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja (FTH) has submitted its report to the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako.

The report was presented on Tuesday, at the Minister’s Office in the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, by the Committee Chairman and Chairman of the FTH Lokoja Board of Management, Nze Chidi Duru, OON.

Speaking at the submission, Nze Duru thanked the Federal Government for entrusting the Committee with what he described as a “sensitive national assignment.” He said the recommendations contained in the report, if implemented, would help bring an end to recurring labour-related disputes at the hospital.

“The Board remains dedicated to supporting the Federal Government’s reform agenda to ensure that the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja emerges as a model of efficiency, professionalism, and good governance in Nigeria’s healthcare system,” he said.

Responding, Dr. Salako praised the Committee for the timely completion of its assignment, describing its level of commitment as unprecedented. He said the report would be transmitted to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, for immediate action.

The Minister expressed hope that the prompt submission of the report would encourage the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) to suspend its ongoing strike. The reinstatement of the sacked doctors is one of the union’s key demands.

The Committee, chaired by Nze Duru, was inaugurated on November 7, 2025. Other members include Prof. Dafe Otobo and Mr. Haruna Lawal, Deputy Director in the Ministry, who served as Secretary.
