Tinubu Approves
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

President Tinubu will undertake a State Visit to the United Kingdom from Wednesday, March 18 to Thursday, March 19, 2026, following an official invitation from His Majesty King Charles III, Prime Business Africa reports.

The President will be accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during the two-day visit, which will see them hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle.

The visit marks the first State Visit by a Nigerian leader to the United Kingdom in 37 years. The last such visit took place in 1989, when Nigeria’s then military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, was hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

State Visits are typically reserved for close strategic partners and are aimed at strengthening long-term bilateral relations through a blend of formal ceremonies and high-level diplomatic discussions.

Nigeria and the United Kingdom maintain long-standing ties dating back to Nigeria’s independence in 1960, with both countries linked through Commonwealth membership, deep people-to-people relations, and cooperation in areas including trade, security, education, and climate action.

President Tinubu and King Charles III have met on previous occasions, including at international climate engagements and during earlier diplomatic encounters, reflecting ongoing engagement between both leaders ahead of the formal State Visit.

While the detailed programme of events has yet to be released, the visit is expected to provide an opportunity to deepen cooperation between both nations and reaffirm shared interests across political, economic and global governance issues.

Further announcements are anticipated as preparations for the State Visit progress.
