Lagos Road Crash: Bus Driver Took One-way - LASTMA 

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has said the bus driver that was involved in an accident with a tricycle at the Okota axis of Lagos, Tuesday morning, was driving one-way, which resulted in the tragic incident.

According to a statement released by LASTMA on Tuesday evening, the operatives that carried out the apprehension of the driver disclosed that the driver had taken a one-way road, which is prohibited by the law.

Contrary to earlier reports that four people died in the accident, the traffic agency said only the pregnant woman and the tricycle operator lost their lives, while the two children were only injured.

It said that a traffic officer, Hassan Kehinde of Zone 27, Okota, who led the LASTMA patrol team confirmed that the vehicle whose driver was apprehended was a blue Toyota Sienna bus with registration number AKD 944 HN.

According to the officer a policeman that was attached to the patrol team had volunteered to escort the apprehended vehicle to the  office for proper booking and on their way, the driver attempted to escape by diverting to Bayo Oyewale street by Ago round-about, when he suddenly rammed into the fully loaded tricycle. The tricycle operator died on the spot but, the pregnant women alongside her two children were rushed to the hospital.

The woman, according to LASTMA,  couldn’t survive, but the children were receiving treatment in the ICU at the time of releasing the statement.
