UBA Commits $102 Million to Chad as Part of $30 Billion Development Drive

November 11, 2025

UBA Group has reaffirmed its role as a key financier of Africa’s infrastructure and industrial growth, pledging over $102 million in direct investments in Chad during the UAE-Chad Trade & Investment Forum.

Speaking at the event, the bank’s representative framed the investment as part of Chad’s $30 billion “Chad Connection 2030” plan, a portfolio of 268 projects aimed at electrification, water provision, and industrial expansion.

The forum, themed “Financing African Competitiveness – Building Bridges, Powering Progress,” gathered investors, development finance institutions, and corporate leaders to explore opportunities in Africa’s fastest-growing sectors.

According to the keynote, UBA’s investments in Chad include a $49 million domestic gas project, a $6.7 million wind farm in Amdjarass, and funding for road and telecom infrastructure. These commitments complement the bank’s continental track record, including:

  • $400 million in Tanzania’s Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project
  • $700 million in Nigeria’s power sector and the $10 billion Dangote Refinery syndication
  • $315 million in Ghanaian road infrastructure

UBA stressed that financing Africa’s competitiveness is not about charity but strategic investment. The keynote highlighted that while Africa holds $4 trillion in domestic financial assets, less than 15% are currently channeled into productive infrastructure, a gap that structured investment and local expertise can close.

Key business opportunities in Chad identified by UBA include:

  • Public-private partnerships (PPPs) for solar and water infrastructure
  • Syndicated loans and project finance to connect Chad to regional energy grids
  • Digital financial platforms supporting e-tax and e-registry initiatives

“Chad Connection 2030 is a portfolio of bankable projects,” the keynote said, noting that UBA is leveraging its experience in 20 African countries and global financial centers including Dubai to structure deals that de-risk investment and mobilize capital at scale.

Looking ahead, with UBA’s $102 million commitment and the structured roadmap of Chad Connection 2030, investors are being presented with a clear signal that Chad is positioning itself as a strategic hub for regional economic growth.

As the forum continues with a panel on Attractiveness, Industrialization, Water, and Electricity, moderated by Ms. Laura Buckwell, stakeholders are expected to explore actionable investment opportunities that could accelerate the nation’s transformation.
