The Nigerian Navy on Tuesday and Wednesday carried out a series of rescue and anti-crude-oil-theft operations across Rivers and Delta States, rescuing stranded passengers and dismantling multiple illegal refining sites, Prime Business Africa reports.
According to a statement signed by Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, Director of Information, personnel of the Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny on 4 November 2025 rescued 11 passengers from a sinking speedboat along the Bonny River.
The boat, which departed Nembe Waterside Jetty in Port Harcourt for Coal Beach Jetty in Bonny Island, reportedly developed engine failure midstream and began taking in water near the Federal Ocean Terminal, Onne. Navy patrol teams responded in heavy rainfall and evacuated six male and five female passengers.

The rescued individuals were transported to the Nigeria LNG Jetty for medical checks before being handed over to the Marine Police for reunification with their families.
On 5 November 2025, the Navy expanded its anti-crude oil theft campaign, deactivating illegal refining sites across four locations in the Niger Delta.

At Obodo Omadino community in Warri South-West LGA of Delta State, personnel from FOB Escravos shut down two illegal refining sites. Another patrol team from NNS PATHFINDER uncovered a site in the Bakana-Isaka axis of Rivers State that contained three cooking ovens, six reservoirs, sacks, jerrycans and dugout pits filled with stolen crude oil and illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil.
In Bonny LGA, FOB Bonny teams dismantled an active illegal refining camp at Eyamba community, while NNS DELTA deactivated a separate site at Opumani Creek in Warri South LGA, Delta State.
The Navy said the operations underscore renewed efforts under the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, to strengthen maritime security, protect national assets, and curb crude oil theft across Nigeria’s maritime corridor.
