Amanze Chinonye
The Lagos State Police Command has announced the passing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, who died after a surgical procedure.
According to verified reports from the Command, CSP Ngbaronye passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos, after undergoing fibroid surgery.
The Command, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, described her death as a painful loss to the Nigeria Police Force, noting that she was an exemplary officer who served with distinction, professionalism, and integrity.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing her demise as an irreparable loss. He extended condolences to her husband, aged mother, and elder brother, who is a priest, on behalf of the entire Command.
Ngbaronye, who joined the Nigeria Police Force on April 19, 2010, had served in several strategic positions within the Lagos Command. She was previously the Crime Officer at Dolphin Estate Division, Ikoyi, and a Fingerprint Expert with the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti. She also headed the Public Complaints Bureau and served as Public Information Officer with the African Union Mission in Somalia, where she received commendations for outstanding performance.
In December 2020, she was appointed Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for Lagos State by then Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, and later served as DPO in Iponri before her posting to Festac Division. She was among the 1,348 officers promoted by the Police Service Commission to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police in December 2024.
The Lagos State Police Command said funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course, as the Force continues to mourn the loss of one of its finest officers.
