Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has inaugurated a new batch of hi-tech security equipment and patrol vehicles aimed at reinforcing the state’s fight against crime, as part of a broader, multi-year strategy to modernize security across the state, Prime Business Africa reports.
The assets, procured through the Enugu State Security Trust Fund (ESSTF), include two advanced drones, 10 Hilux patrol vans, 400 bulletproof vests, and 400 bulletproof helmets. The inauguration represents a continuation of Governor Mbah’s effort to build a tech-driven security ecosystem in Enugu.
Established in February 2024, the ESSTF mobilizes resources from individuals, corporate donors, and institutions to support crime-fighting and security infrastructure. Under this framework, Enugu has invested in a state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre, a network of AI-enabled surveillance cameras across urban and rural areas, and over 150 Distress Response Squad (DRS) vehicles fitted with AI-embedded cameras for rapid response.

Governor Mbah said the new equipment would strengthen these existing security investments, enabling wider coverage and faster response to criminal activity. “Violent crimes in Enugu State have been reduced by over 80 per cent, but we are not resting on our laurels,” he stated.
“Security is a sector where even one breach can undermine all the successes you have accomplished. That is why we will continue to invest heavily in equipment and infrastructure that allow us to nip crime in the bud and respond swiftly whenever it occurs.”
The drones, capable of long-range surveillance with night-vision and AI analytics, are expected to improve monitoring of both urban and remote areas. Meanwhile, the additional patrol vans and protective gear will enhance the safety and operational effectiveness of security personnel on the ground.
Observers note that Enugu’s approach marks a significant shift from traditional community policing to a modern, partially AI-driven security system. The administration’s strategy links enhanced safety with economic growth, aiming to make the state “the safest place to live, work, and invest.”
Governor Mbah also reaffirmed collaboration with the Federal Government to maintain safety across communities. He expressed appreciation to the Trustees of the Enugu State Security Trust Fund for their continued support. “Ndi Enugu can be assured that we will keep pressing forward to ensure that our state remains the safest place to live, work, and invest,” he added.
The latest inauguration signals a scaling up of Enugu’s security architecture and underscores the government’s commitment to long-term, technology-enabled crime prevention.
