Globacom Renews Sponsorship of 2025 Ofala Festival, Reaffirms Support for Nigeria’s Cultural Heritage

Telecommunications giant Globacom Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage by renewing its sponsorship of the 2025 Ofala Festival the annual royal celebration hosted by His Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha.

The renewal, which was announced at a press briefing held at Ime Obi, the Obi’s Palace in Onitsha, extends the company’s sponsorship of the festival for another three years.

Globacom, which has supported the Ofala since 2011, said its continued partnership reflects its belief in culture as a vital component of national identity and tourism development.

Speaking at the event, a Globacom representative stated that the company was proud to remain a key partner in advancing the global visibility of the Ofala Festival. “Culture is not a luxury it is a cornerstone of identity, community, and economic growth. Our support for Ofala reflects Globacom’s deep respect for Nigerian tradition and our commitment to celebrating it on a global stage,” the representative said.

Partners and Media Collaborations

The Chairman of the Strategic Marketing and Communications Subcommittee of the 2025 Onitsha Ofala Festival, Mr. Nn’emeka Maduegbuna, disclosed details of the event’s corporate and media partnerships during a pre-event press conference held at Ime Obi Onicha, Ezechima Square, Onitsha.

He announced THISDAY/Arise Media Group as the official media partners for the 2025 festival, which is scheduled to take place on October 17 and 18. Other media collaborators announced for the event included Afia TV/Afia Radio and Pop Central TV, all of whom are expected to provide extensive coverage of the cultural celebrations.

Mr. Maduegbuna also unveiled the festival’s official partners, which include the National Council for Arts and Culture, Globacom Limited, NigerBev Limited, Guinness Nigeria Plc, Zenith Bank Plc, and International Breweries Plc. He noted that these partnerships underscore the growing recognition of Ofala as one of Nigeria’s foremost cultural and tourism events.

The 2025 Ofala Festival, themed “Njiko na Ntachi” (Unity and Perseverance), features a series of cultural, artistic, and community-centered activities taking place from October 7 to 22 in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Highlights of this year’s program include:

  • Ofala Lecture Series, which commenced on October 7
  • The Oreze Art Exhibition, showcasing works by Nigerian and African artists
  • A Youth Carnival and Medical and Well-being Outreach
  • The Iru Ofala ceremony on October 17
  • The Azu Ofala grand celebration on October 18
  • A Royal Banquet in honor of the Obi of Onitsha on October 22

The Nigerian Tourism Development Commission (NTDC) has endorsed the Ofala Festival as a major national cultural event.

Globacom stated that its long-term sponsorship of Ofala aligns with its mission to support initiatives that strengthen local communities, drive tourism, and promote national pride. The company also disclosed plans to roll out promotional activities for subscribers during the festival, including a brand-new car giveaway and other customer rewards.

In addition, Globacom reiterated its commitment to improving digital connectivity across Nigeria’s South East region through continued investment in 4G/LTE infrastructure, ensuring that technology and culture progress side by side.

Over the years, the Ofala Festival deeply rooted in Onitsha’s royal and communal traditions has evolved into a globally recognized celebration of Igbo culture, attracting visitors from across Nigeria and the diaspora.
