Aba Power, Nigeria’s newest electricity distribution company (DisCo), has resumed full electricity supply to customers following the restoration of gas supply to its embedded generation company, Geometric Power Aba Ltd.
The disruption, which affected supply from the 188-megawatt power plant located in the Osisioma Industrial Layout, occurred at about 2 p.m. on Monday, January 26, after Heirs Energies, the gas supplier from Operating Mining Lease (OML) 17, identified a technical fault and temporarily shut down supply to address the issue.
Confirming the development, the Managing Director of Aba Power, Ugo Opiegbe, said power was restored after the fault was resolved. The confirmation was contained in a statement signed by the company’s Senior Communication and Brand Manager, Edise Ekong.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelAccording to the statement, the swift resolution of the technical issue by Heirs Energies made it possible for Aba Power to restore electricity to nine of the 17 local government areas in Abia State within the Aba ring-fenced area.
“We are pleased that the technical issue was resolved with dedication and professionalism by Heirs Energies, enabling us to resume electricity supply,” the statement said.

Aba Power apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the gas disruption, noting that during the outage the company sourced electricity from the national grid to sustain supply to major manufacturing and industrial customers.
The resumption of supply came amid a nationwide blackout triggered by a total collapse of the national grid at about 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27.
Commenting on the situation, Engineer Cliff Eneh, a former senior manager with the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA),(NEPA), said Aba Power’s embedded generation model had insulated the area from the widespread outage affecting the rest of the country.
“With Aba Power resuming supply on Tuesday afternoon, Aba is currently the only place in the Nigerian federation enjoying electricity,” Eneh said, adding that there was zero power allocation to the 11 DisCos covering Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Enugu, Yola, Benin, Kano and Kaduna.
He called for urgent solutions to Nigeria’s recurring grid collapses, advocating greater adoption of embedded power plants. According to him, the model offers more autonomy and flexibility in electricity supply, a system he said Aba Power is successfully demonstrating.
