Tinubu Postpones Trips to G20, AU-EU Summits, Orders Reinforced Security Deployment to Kwara

November 19, 2025

President Tinubu on Wednesday postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, to receive further security briefings following the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State.

The President had been scheduled to depart Abuja for the 20th G20 Summit and later attend the 7th AU-EU Summit but suspended his travel after what the Presidency described as “disturbing” security breaches in both states.

According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu has directed the military and police to deploy additional personnel to Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The President is now awaiting detailed reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima who visited Kebbi on his behalf as well as assessments from the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) on the Kwara incident.

Reiterating his earlier directive, President Tinubu charged the security agencies to intensify efforts toward rescuing the 24 abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi and ensuring their safe return.
