Amanze ChinonyeThe eleventh session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD-11) is set to take place in Kampala, Uganda, from April 9 to 11, 2025.
Organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Government of Uganda, in collaboration with the African Union Commission, African Development Bank, and UN system organisations, the forum aims to drive job creation and economic growth through sustainable solutions.

Key Objectives of the forum are to review progress and strengthen learning by assessing Africa’s progress toward the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

It will also share innovative approaches to development and advocate effective policy measures as well as reflect on the outcomes of the Summit of the Future and articulate concrete actions for implementation.
Forum Theme
The theme for ARFSD-11 is “Driving Job Creation and Economic Growth through Sustainable, Inclusive, Science-and Evidence-Based Solutions for the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063”. This focus is crucial as Africa is currently off-track in meeting most SDG targets, and the remaining six years present a window of opportunity to boost implementation.
Expected Outcomes
The forum is expected to establish consensus on Africa’s sustainable development priorities, strengthen capacity for voluntary national reviews and shape Africa’s contribution to the upcoming Summit of the Future and the Second World Summit on Social Development
Participation
The forum will feature a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and virtual participation from Ministers and high-level policymakers, Experts and practitioners from various ministries and agencies, civil society organisations, private sector, and academia as well as regional economic communities and other regional and subregional organisations.

With over 1,500 participants expected, including Heads of State and former leaders, this event is poised to be a significant moment for Africa’s sustainable development trajectory.
