Aminu Tambuwal Quits PDP, Joins African Democratic Congress

March 12, 2026

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and two-term Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Tambuwal’s resignation, submitted in writing to his ward chairman, comes amid ongoing internal crises, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions within the PDP, which he reportedly found increasingly difficult to reconcile with his vision for effective political service.

While expressing gratitude for the opportunities the PDP offered him, including his tenure as Speaker and Governor, Tambuwal is said to have decided to move to the ADC with his associates and supporters.

The move, according to sources, is guided by his commitment to a political platform founded on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and national development.

Tambuwal’s political career has been marked by multiple party affiliations since 1999:

  • From the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) to the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP)
  • Back to ANPP
  • From ANPP to PDP
  • From PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC)
  • Returning from APC to PDP, and now
  • From PDP to ADC

Political analysts note that Tambuwal’s latest shift could significantly impact party alignments and electoral strategies, particularly in the North-West and at the national level.

Tambuwal’s move reflects a broader trend of political realignments driven by internal party crises, as politicians seek platforms that better match their ideals and aspirations for national development.
