Seven APC Governorship Hopefuls Withdraw to Back Oyebamiji After Tinubu Summit

December 10, 2025

Seven aspirants seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Osun State have pulled out of the party’s upcoming primary and thrown their support behind Bola Oyebamiji.

Their withdrawal followed a reconciliation meeting called by President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where the stakeholders agreed to rally behind a single consensus contender.

The closed-door meeting, convened by President Tinubu to ease tensions ahead of the primary, was attended by key aspirants except former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, who boycotted the session. Omisore had earlier dismissed his disqualification from the primary as “a joke,” insisting that the process lacked credibility.

Among those who stepped down in support of Oyebamiji are former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, and Mulikat Abiola Jimoh.

Their withdrawal is expected to significantly narrow the field as the APC works to present a united front ahead of the governorship poll. The consensus arrangement is seen as part of wider efforts to minimise internal conflicts that could affect the party’s performance in the upcoming election.
