Thai Cabinet has declared a one-year mourning period for civil servants across the country following the death of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, who passed away on Friday evening at the age of 93.
Under the government’s directive, national flags will be flown at half-mast for 30 days at all public offices, state enterprises, and schools. Civil servants and state employees are to wear mourning attire for one year as a mark of respect.
The government also encouraged members of the public to join the national mourning by wearing black or dark-colored clothing for 90 days. In addition, authorities have requested the temporary suspension of entertainment and celebratory events during the initial mourning period.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the measures on Saturday following an emergency Cabinet session in Bangkok. He confirmed that his official trip to Malaysia, initially scheduled for today, has been canceled in light of the Queen Mother’s passing.
However, the prime minister is expected to travel to Malaysia tomorrow (October 26) to participate in the signing of a joint peace declaration between Thailand and Cambodia, to be witnessed by the Malaysian Prime Minister and the President of the United States.
Government sources indicated that the event’s timing may be adjusted from afternoon to morning to allow Anutin to return to Bangkok in time for the royal ceremonies. If his presence is deemed unnecessary, the Foreign Minister will represent Thailand at the signing.
Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, revered as the “Mother of the Nation,” passed away at 9:21 p.m. on October 24 at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok.
A one-year mourning period has already been declared for the Royal Family and Household, as the nation continues to pay tribute to her legacy of compassion, cultural preservation, and public service.
