UAE Breaks New Grounds with 6G Trial, Hits Record 145Gbps Speed

October 23, 2025

The United Arab Emirates has successfully conducted the Middle East’s first 6G network trial, achieving a record-breaking speed of 145 gigabits per second (Gbps).

The test, carried out by e& UAE formerly known as Etisalat in collaboration with researchers from New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), marks a major milestone in the country’s push toward next-generation wireless connectivity.

According to the telecommunications company, the pilot 6G Terahertz (THz) test demonstrated unprecedented data throughput and ultra-low latency capabilities under controlled conditions. The technology is designed to support faster transmission, near-instant communication, and seamless integration between sensing and connectivity a key component of the future 6G ecosystem.

“This achievement highlights the UAE’s commitment to leading digital innovation in the region,” e& UAE said, noting that the trial positions the country at the forefront of global 6G research and development.

While the successful pilot represents a leap forward, experts cautioned that the test does not mean 6G is commercially available.

The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) confirmed that the technology remains in its experimental phase, with commercial rollout projected around 2030.

Prime Business Africa reports that the UAE government had earlier unveiled its national 6G roadmap in April 2024, outlining plans for research investment, spectrum allocation, and international collaboration to prepare for future deployment.

Telecommunication analysts say the record 145Gbps speed was achieved under lab conditions using the terahertz spectrum frequencies far higher than those used in current 5G networks. These bands promise significantly higher capacity but also require extensive infrastructure and new device technologies.

Industry observers say the development underscores the UAE’s ambition to establish itself as a hub for advanced digital infrastructure, with Dubai expected to play a leading role in future trials and innovation projects.

Although still years from consumer availability, the 6G pilot test reinforces the UAE’s growing reputation as a pioneer in digital transformation and connectivity innovation across the Middle East.
