Wife of Iran’s Late Supreme Leader Dies from Injuries Following Tehran Strikes

March 3, 2026

Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the wife of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has died after succumbing to injuries sustained during a recent airstrike on Tehran, Iranian state media reported.

Khojasteh, 79, had been hospitalized and in a coma since the strikes on February 28, which targeted the family and reportedly killed Khamenei and several of his close relatives.

Iranian reports indicate that the attack, attributed to U.S. and Israeli forces, also claimed the lives of a daughter, a son‑in‑law, and a granddaughter.

Born in 1947, Khojasteh married Khamenei in 1964 and remained largely out of the public eye throughout her life. The couple had six children. Though not a public political figure, Khojasteh’s death marks a significant personal and symbolic loss within Iran’s ruling elite.

The strikes are part of a broader escalation between the United States, Israel, and Iran, with multiple casualties reported and heightened regional tensions. The attack on Tehran has drawn international attention and prompted widespread condemnation and calls for restraint from global leaders.

Iranian authorities have not released further details on the full extent of casualties or the ongoing security measures in the capital, while hospitals continue to treat the injured from the attacks.

The death of Khojasteh underscores the human cost of the escalating conflict, highlighting the vulnerability of even the most high-profile figures in Iran’s political landscape.
