Terra Industries Reappoints Nnamdi Chife to Drive Military Strategy as Defence Partnerships Scale

March 2, 2026

Terra Industries has reappointed security strategist Nnamdi Chife to lead its military relations portfolio, a move that underscores the company’s transition from an emerging hardware innovator to a more deeply embedded player within Nigeria’s formal defence architecture.

Chife’s return comes at a defining moment for the Abuja-based defence technology firm, which is moving beyond prototype development into long-term institutional partnerships with the Nigerian armed forces. His new role places him at the centre of Terra’s engagement with military leadership, procurement structures and strategic planning processes.

The appointment follows Terra’s February memorandum of understanding with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), the military-run state defence manufacturer. The agreement sets out plans for a joint venture focused on local assembly, research, development and training across drones, robotics and cybersecurity systems  effectively integrating Terra into Nigeria’s domestic defence manufacturing framework.

Industry analysts say this evolution demands more than technical innovation. It requires navigating procurement cycles, regulatory compliance, operational secrecy and long-term institutional trust areas where Chife’s background is expected to prove decisive.

A counter-insurgency specialist with a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies, Chife brings over 15 years of experience within Nigeria’s defence and security ecosystem. He has participated in and led international military acquisition delegations and advised on internal security issues, including insurgency and kidnapping threats that continue to challenge national stability.

His association with Terra dates back to 2023, when he served on the company’s board during the early establishment of its robotics facility in Abuja. He stepped away in 2024 amid corporate restructuring and a rebrand from Terrahaptix to Terra Industries, before returning now in an executive leadership capacity.

Beyond Terra, Chife founded Chive GPS, a Lagos-based security intelligence and conflict resolution firm that has worked with agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on fraud investigations, geolocation intelligence and asset tracing. Earlier in his career, he spent nearly a decade in finance at Ecobank Nigeria before pivoting fully into defence and intelligence advisory roles.

In a statement on X announcing his return, Terra said Chife would lead its military engagement strategy and provide advisory guidance to Chief Executive Officer Nathan Nwachuku and the board. The company framed his appointment as central to developing advanced weapons and surveillance systems tailored to Nigeria’s operational realities and other African markets confronting insurgency and terrorism.

Founded in 2023 by Nwachuku and co-founder Maxwell Maduka, Terra has rapidly emerged as one of Africa’s most visible defence-tech startups. The company recently secured $34 million in funding from global and local investors, including 8VC, Lux Capital and Resilience17 Capital, positioning it among the continent’s most capitalised ventures in the sector.

As Nigeria intensifies efforts to expand domestic defence production and reduce reliance on imported systems, Terra’s integration into state-backed manufacturing initiatives marks a significant milestone. Chife’s reinstatement signals a strategic emphasis on diplomacy, credibility and institutional alignment factors likely to shape the company’s trajectory as much as its engineering ambitions.
