Senator Moro Mourns Son, Grandson in Tragic Double Loss

October 21, 2025

Senate Minority Leader, Senator Patrick Abba Moro, is mourning the deaths of his son and grandson in what has been described as a devastating double tragedy that struck within 48 hours.

According to reports, the Senator’s son, Victor Peter Moro, died in a motor accident along the Mararaba axis in Nasarawa State on October 19, 2025, barely a day after the burial of his 10-year-old nephew, Abba Moro Jr., the Senator’s grandson.

Sources close to the family revealed that Victor had only recently returned to Nigeria after completing his studies in Turkey and was preparing to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme before his untimely death.

It was gathered that the fatal crash occurred while Victor was travelling from the family residence to attend to personal matters. His sudden demise, following the recent loss of the young Abba Jr., has left the Moro family and the Benue South Senatorial District in profound grief.

The incident has drawn a wave of condolences from political leaders and associates across Nigeria.

In a statement issued by the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, he expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, describing it as “a heartbreaking double tragedy that words can hardly express.”

Chief Ortom lamented the death of Victor, whom he described as “a young man full of promise who had just completed his studies in Turkey and returned home to serve his country under the National Youth Service Corps, only for his life to be cut short in a fatal motor accident.”

He said the tragedy had not only plunged the Moro family into mourning but also brought immense sorrow to their friends, relations, and associates, particularly those who know Senator Moro as “a committed public servant and leader.”

“This is indeed a moment of deep pain and sorrow for my brother and friend, Senator Abba Moro. No words are enough to console a father in this kind of situation. My heart goes out to him and the entire family. I pray that God, in His infinite mercy, will comfort them and grant the souls of the departed eternal rest,” Ortom said.

He further prayed that God grants Senator Moro and his loved ones the strength to bear the “irreplaceable loss.”

Other political figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, have also extended condolences to Senator Moro and the people of Benue South over the tragic incident.

Funeral arrangements for the deceased are yet to be announced by the family.
