“This library stands as a testament to our determination to build an academic environment that supports curiosity, creativity, and global competitiveness,” he said.
The project, which had been in development for over a decade, replaces outdated facilities and aligns with Lagos State’s broader investments in tertiary education. Recent developments include a 550-seater auditorium at LASU’s Epe campus and several campus upgrades aimed at improving teaching and learning standards.
According to the university’s official statement, the library complex will serve as a 24-hour knowledge hub, providing access to digital resources and interactive study areas. The structure houses seminar rooms for group discussions, conference halls for academic events, and an e-library equipped with high-speed internet and digital catalogues for students and researchers.
LASU’s official website, confirmed that the complex will significantly expand access to learning resources and modern facilities for the university’s over 35,000 students.
While the title “West Africa’s largest library” is attributed to LASU’s announcement, independent verification of that claim is yet to be confirmed by external academic or regional library authorities.
The commissioning follows a series of education-focused projects launched under Sanwo-Olu’s administration, underscoring Lagos State’s vision of positioning its institutions as centers of academic excellence in Nigeria and beyond.
University officials described the facility as “a dream fulfilled,” noting that it will transform the learning environment and strengthen LASU’s global reputation for research and innovation.
