Presidency Recalls NTA DG, ED News; Reverses Recent Appointments

September 3, 2025

President Tinubu has directed the reinstatement of Mr. Salihu Dembos as Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) after he briefly vacated the post amid management changes within the agency.

Dembos, initially appointed DG in October 2023, will now resume his duties to complete his three-year tenure. Similarly, Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, Executive Director of News, has been recalled to continue in his role until 2027. Adewuyi was first appointed to the position in 2024.

The President’s directive effectively nullifies the recently announced appointments of a new director-general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises. The reversal underscores the President’s authority over federal agencies and emphasizes continuity in leadership at Nigeria’s flagship public broadcaster.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the decisions in an official statement. While the specific reasons for the reversal have not been publicly disclosed, analysts say the move reflects the administration’s commitment to stability and effective governance within state-owned media.

Observers note that such reversals are not uncommon in federal agencies, highlighting the President’s prerogative to ensure that leadership aligns with strategic goals and operational efficiency.

The recall of Dembos and Adewuyi consolidates NTA’s leadership structure, while the nullification of other appointments signals a return to the original administrative setup. The decision is expected to influence both internal management at the NTA and broader federal media operations.
